1) What is the genre of music and how did it originate? Is it a widely known genre? On the Radio?

Bluegrass music is a form of American roots music, and a sub-genre of country music. It is close country and mountain music, bluegrass is mostly played with the use of acoustic and stringed musical instruments. The genre of blue grass was inspired by the music of Appalachia. It has mixed roots in Irish, Scottish, Welsh, and English traditional music. Early settlers that settled in Appalachian region composed new songs about day-to-day life experiences in the new land and folk music. Since most of these people lived in rural areas, the songs reflected life on the farm or in the hills and this type of music was called "mountain music" or "country music."

2) What age person might listen to this kind of music.

Older generations probably the group of individuals prior to baby boomer population.

3) Do you think people who listen to this type of genre see it as apart of their identity? And if so, how might it affect their appearance or behavior? On some level yes, people who live in rural Appalacian region may see it as a part of their identity because many blue grass songs are about day to day life experiences. I feel that the genre will not affect their behavior or appearance, however it may create a sense of pride of who they are and where they come from.

4) Find a couple of bands and songs within the genre. Do you like this music? Why or why not?

Most popular names in the genre, Bill Monroe and his Bluegrass Boys and the Stanley Brothers. I do not like the music in this genre, because I feel like I would not be able to relax or study with it. I also feel like there is too much going on.

5) Anything else you want to mention about this genre?

-Since its early days in the post World War II period Bluegrass has seen many ups and downs, while never really breaking through to mainstream audiences.
