Part I

1. What body systems are primarily affected and what physiological changes would you expect Joe and Frank to experience during such rigorous exercise?

Answer: Cardiovascular, respiratory, and muscular. The exercise would be working the muscle and they would eventually become fatigued, the heart would also beat faster since it has to provide the muscles with the adequate amount of oxygen.

2. List the symptoms Joe is manifesting on the 20th day of cycling.

Answer: dizzy, bleeding, fatigue

3. Could Joe’s symptoms be explained by your answers to Question #1 alone?

Answer: Yes because the long ride can explain the fatigue and his cardiovascular system must be working hard

Part II

1. What, if any, of this new information might be relevant to this case?

Answer: Joe was drinking several energy drinks while frank was not. Joe also vomited

2. What can you determine from the clinical lab results of Joe’s blood work and urinalysis?

Answer: There are plenty of neutrophils in the blood which indicates an infection is in his body.

3. What additional information or tests would you request?

Answer: Possibly his heart rate
