1.0 INTRODUCTION

Sarawak also known as one of the ethnic tourism destinations where there is lots of ethnic living together. According to Bujang (2002), the uniqueness of Sarawak well depend on it ethnic groups. Every native group has their own lifestyles, traditions, language, dialects and also cultures. This state is also very popular not only among the Malaysian but to the international tourists as it has a bewildering diversity of culture through over 30 ethnics or indigenous/natives groups (Attila, 2007).

Iban, Bidayuh, Malay, Melanau, Chinese, Sebob and Orang Ulu are among the natives groups of who populates this largest state of Malaysia. Sarawak which also popularly known as Bumi Kenyalang is one of the two out of fourteen Malaysian states located in the island of Borneo Sarawak, surrounded with large tracts of tropical rain forest and separated from the Indonesia Kalimantan by ranges of high hills and mountains (Juliana Langat, 2011).

For this assignment, I would like to write about my culture heritage which is a festival that my ethnic, Melanau, celebrate every year. The festival called Pesta Kaul. During my life, I had attended the festival every year before I further my study in Universiti Malaysia Kelantan. I choose this festival for the assignment, as I can see the potential of the festival to be one of the tourism product that can be introduce in ethnic tourism in Sarawak. Pesta Kaul is held annually and it is also included in the Sarawak tourism calendar.

Therefore, the contents of the assignment will be including the background and history of the festival and the location, the issues that arise about the festival, and last but not list, the author will give some suggestions or recommendation on how to upgrading the festival to be more competitive and well-known especially in Sarawak,

2.0 BACKGROUND OF THE PLACE
