INTRODUCTION

Islam, unlike any other religions, is encouraging and advocating marriage for many good reasons. In one point of view, marriage or also know as nikah in Arabic is a way of fulfilling the natural need of human beings. Only by means of it is possible to construct and protect human morals and culture.[1] Apart from that, marriage is also viewed as a contract in its legal aspect, not a sacrament. In its religious aspect, marriage is recognized in Islam as the basis of society.[2] It is also a promise to give commitments towards each other, to be faithful, to share love and affection, and also to be trustworthy in dealing with issues. It is stated in the Quran ;

“And among His Signs is this, that He created for you mates from among yourselves, that ye may dwell in tranquility with them, and He has put love and mercy between your (hearts): verily in that are Signs for those who reflect” (30:21)

From the verse, it is clearly proved that Allah has demanded humans to find a partner of different gender for themselves and to construct a new life as a mate. In Islam, marriage is seen as a sacred bonding between two souls and it is believed that Allah gives a lot of mercy and blessings especially in terms of rizq to those who go through a nikah.

The main idea about marriage is that it teaches the husband and wife to back each other up in the process of building a family institution. Marriage is all about being responsible and considerate towards each other whenever there are issues. Before getting into a marriage life, it is essential for both man and woman to know the real purposes and to understand the wisdom of it. Each of them has their own rights and obligations as stated in the Quran and Sunnah as well as regulations made by the judiciary institutions in solving matters regarding marriage.
