Graphical User Interface (GUI), you interact with menus and visual images such as buttons and other graphical objects to issue commands. Many current GUI operating system incorporate features similar to those of a Web browser, such as links and navigation buttons.

Command-Line Interface, to configure devices, manage system resources, and troubleshoot network connection, network administrator and other advanced users work with a command-line interface. In a command-line interface, a user types commands or presses special keys on the keyboard to enter data and instructions.

Operating System Functions:

1. User Interface: Controls how data and instructions are entered and how information is displayed on the screen. Two types of user interface are a graphical user interface (GUI) and command-line interface.

2. Memory Management: Optimizes the use of random access memory. If memory is insufficient, the operating system may use virtual memory, which allocates a portion of a storage medium to function as additional RAM.

3. Driver: short of devices driver, is a small program that tells the operating system how to communicate with a specific device.

4. Performance monitor: Is an operating system program that assesses and report information about computer resources and devices.

5. Server Operating System: Is an operating system that organizes and coordinates how multiple user access and share network resources.

System Units

System unit is a case that contain electronic components of the computer used to process data.

Memory: Consist one or more chips on the motherboard and other circuit board on the computer.

RAM: Random Access Memory also called as main memory, consists of chips that can be read from and written to by processor or other devices.

ROM: Read only memory is refer to memory store data and instruction permanently and cannot be modified.
