II. Why did the Falcon executives act as they did?

The Falcon executives acted the way they did because they wanted to protect and maintain the positions they have in the hierarchy. The managers also wanted to emphasize the superiority and authority that they have over all the other employees. This is proven by a statement in the case saying that the top executives are at the front of the room in meetings instead of arranging their chairs in a circular form to show equality and the open, direct, person-to-person communication they are encouraging. They also did not actually believe in the importance of the values they put in the document that is why there are discrepancies between what is written in the document and what really is actually being practiced. The document containing the "Falcon Values" seemed only for show since no one was taking it seriously. The executives were blinded by their self-interest which is why the reality that is truly emphasized in the organization follows hierarchy, secrecy, and expediency.
