Chapter I

Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study

The Student Council elections have always been a yearly activity for every school. It is an activity wherein each student is required to choose from a set of candidates who will represent each position in the Student Council. The computers now in existence are the most powerful machines than can do anything people’s lives. It is in this effect that the proponent has decided to propose a system to reform and regenerate the existing manual voting system into an automated voting system. Automated voting system greatly enhances the speed and efficiency of voting process. Results could be attained even right after the elections reducing the time to a mere fraction compared to the time it takes if the voting is done manually. It also increases the level of the voting experience because of multimedia enhancements .It is an advanced technology used now a days and it increases the e-knowledge of the users which is very necessary for current generation.

1.2 Statement of the Problem

The manual voting system had turned to be slow and tiresome. It was slow because of the following scenarios: 1.) The Election is done manually, so the canvassing is consuming a big amount of time, in fact in most of the elections the canvassing of votes took a long hours and more time consume. 2.) May miscount of votes that may cause for under vote or otherwise over vote. 3.) Mistally and misstated vote for a candidate. It was hard and tiresome on the part of the election facilitators because it needs a lot of energy and time to overcome the complexity of the preparations and the holding of the election down to the canvassing of votes. So with these problems the call for a change is considered. The need to design and make a computerized voting system may be able to conduct the election in a fast, correct, and convenient way and to achieve good and accuracy in its results.
