Utilitarian and Deontology usually have different views on ethical situations. Utilitarian focuses on creating the greatest benefit for the greatest number. Deontology is the belief of “Bind to your duty,” which means exactly as it states, being wound up to do what you have to do. In the case of a vegetarian woman working for an advertising agency picking up an advertising campaign for endorsing bacon, both theories stated above could be utilized in this situation to figure out a solution.

From a Utilitarian standpoint, the vegetarian could choose not to tell anyone since it’ll conflict with her lifestyle and job performance. She then could go through with the advertising campaign, because she’ll be maximizing her job potential and be compensated for her work. Although, if the vegetarian chooses not to tell anyone about her lifestyle and there is a problem occurring in the project due to her lack of transparency, she may be in a lot of trouble considering it is required to express any potential conflicts of interests in the work environment. She could disallow her moral beliefs to conflict with her job performance for monetary gain because of bills she has to pay in order to survive. Nobody else is directly affected from proceeding with this campaign aside from the vegetarian. If she chooses not to go through with the campaign, the agency could find someone else to do it and she’ll have lost that opportunity to pay the bills. Whether she or someone else is on the billboard, the people viewing it wouldn’t notice anything different, therefore, making the potential consumers viewing the billboard either not affected or minimally affected in comparison to the person in the billboard. Since taking this campaign would boost her job qualifications, such as getting noticed by other agencies, in turn making her job opportunities in the future grow faster than normal, she’ll gain nothing but positive outcomes, aside from being morally disgruntled for going against what she...
