Health care Reforms in the US

Health care reforms play a vital role in the health level of the country that reflect on its development. Almost all governments face health care related problems making it a primary goal for all new governments coming to power to provide the best health care to its people or try and fix the loopholes that the previous regime experienced when introducing the reforms. Just like any other country the US has had it share of health care related issues and presidents who have come to power all have had health care reforms introduced for the country in light of bringing cheaper health access to its people but most were never accomplished. An example as illustrated by Lilian E. Forman, (2009), “Bush proposed several ways of helping people get affordable health care. In December 2003, he signed into law a new Medicare bill”(pg 26)

Heath care reforms tend to bridge the gap of those who have no easy access to health care by making sure that the health care facilities are available to all the states, the insurance costs are affordable to those unemployed or already retired and most importantly the best quality of the health care by all health care facilities. Some notable reforms that were introduced in the US include: The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act(HIPAA) which not only covered workers and their families when they switched or lose jobs but also covered any pre-existing health conditions in 1996. The Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1985(COBRA) amended the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA) that gave some employees the ability to carry on with their health coverage even at retirement in 1985.
