Unethical Production of Mengniu Dairy

This essay is to talk about the unethical marketing activities of the MengNiu Dairy Company Limited , one of the leader companies of producing dairy products in China and its products are sold in many places all over the world. This essay will talk about definition of the marketing norms and values of the marketing activities of MengNiu , some of the codes of ethics and prove that the MengNiu company is not ethically. Also, this essay will suggest some improvement in order to correct the unethical marketing action.

According to the American Marketing Association (AMA), Ethics norms and values means standards of conduct that are expected and maintained by society and the criteria for evaluating the actions of a person or the actions of others. Marketers are expected to uphold the highest professional ethic norms and values implied by the responsibility among stakeholders ranging from customers, investors regulators to employees.

In 2008 , MengnNiu’s baby formula was examined contain melamine , which is industrial chemical that is use for producing plastic. It harmed the health of the child and violated the code of ethics provided by AMA. This baby formula is totally unacceptable since it is toxic formula and hurt the babies, and selling toxic formula to earn the money is totally unethical.

After the media disclose the ‘toxic formula’, MengNiu stop the unethical actions immediately and recalled the toxic powder. This action shows that MengNiu harms the babies and go against the code of ethics.

Secondly, MengNiu did not take the ethical actions of the area of product development and management. According to AMA, companies should disclose of all substantial risks associated with product or service usage (American Marketing Association, 2003).
