The most applicable concept of motivation and job satisfaction for our work group in the organization is Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs Theory put forward by an American psychologist Abraham Maslow (1954) . He stated that human needs tend to arrange themselves in hierarchies of prepotency i.e., appearance of one need generally depends on the satisfaction of others. This striving for one or the other level of needs provides motivation for his behavior .They are closely related to each other and may be arranged from the lowest to the highest development of the personalities. Maslow proposed five sets of the basic needs that can be arranged in a definite hierarchical order for understanding the mechanism of human motivation to behave and strive as shown below :

As illustrated above, the physiological needs necessary for survival are at the bottom of the structure while distinctly psychological needs are at the top. Starting from the satisfaction of the physiological needs , every individual strives for the satisfaction of other need of a higher order . This striving for one or the other level of needs provides the motivation for his behaviour. As each of these needs becomes substantially satisfied,the next need becomes dominant.The individual moves up the steps of the hierarchy. From the stand point of motivation, the theory says although no need is ever fully gratified, a substantially satisfied need no longer motivates. So if one wants to motivate someone, according to Maslow, one need to understand what level of hierarchy that person is currently on and focus on satisfying the needs at or above that level.
