In World War 2 the British Government had to find a way to keep their country’s morale up and influence them that the war is worth fighting for. They used propaganda to do this. British propaganda took various forms, and the British people experienced different themes through propaganda. The ministry of information was in charge of it. A dictionary Definition is “an organised programme of publicity, selected information etc used to propagate a doctrine, practice or set of beliefs.” At first the impact of their propaganda wasn’t very successful and wasn’t keeping up the country’s morale. The propaganda in the beginning was serious and wasn’t funny which made the public feel depressed about the war. This had a bad effect on the government and even Josef Goebbels the person in charge of the propaganda in Germany stated that “A good government cannot survive without good propaganda”. When the government and ministry of information got better at propaganda a line started to form between truth and lie this was referred to as white and black propaganda. White propaganda was truthful and straightforward like “Hitler is crazy.” And black propaganda according to Wikipedia is “ false information and material that purports to be from a source on one side of a conflict, but is actually from the opposing side” It mainly targeted Germany, like when American and British troops dropped leaflets over Germany with a picture with German gravestones reminding them the high risk of death. I think this had a big impact overall as this was very sneaky yet simple, and the German public believed this by thinking it was an anit-nazi group protesting against Hitler and the war.
