Canada located in North America is the second largest country next to Russia. Canada consists of ten provinces and three territories and was originally inhabited by aboriginal people. During the 15th century the British and French explored the region and the Constitution Act of 1867 established modern day Canada. This document provided the structure of Canada’s government and how it would function. Canada is considered to be multicultural and has two official languages consisting of English and French.

In this 2006 census map we are able to see break down of ethnic groups by region. According to the CIA world fact book we see a breakdown of “British Isles origin 28%, French origin 23%, other European 15%, Amerindian 2%, other, mostly Asian, African, Arab 6%, mixed background 26%”. This break down of multiple cultures leads Canada to be a multicultural country like the United States. Canada is also similar to the United States that their government structure as they have an executive branch, legislative branch and a judicial branch. The Canadians consider their government to be a Federal parliamentary democracy under a constitutional monarchy. This means they still see as the queen of England as their leader, but mostly she is just a figure head as the parliament is in charge of the operations of the nation. There are also a few more differences between such as their political system where there is an representation by multi-party system and this is closely modeled after the British than the United States as we are generally regarded having a two party system.

Canada is a nation rich in natural resources containing the third largest oil sands in Alberta. The FTA and NAFTA have provided Canada with more opportunities to grow as Canada is the largest energy exporter to the United States.
