1. What are the advantages and disadvantages of the Trade Point program for SMEs

Compared to the SMEs having their own Web sites for e-commerce transactions?

There are many advantages and some disadvantages to the Trade Point program for SMEs (small medium enterprises) versus the SMEs having their own website for e-commerce transactions. The advantages are very clear from the reading, the program helps to integrate developing countries into the world economy in a development-friendly manner. It helps the small medium enterprises to take full advantage of global trading opportunities, and using modern ITs and improves the capacity of developing countries to compete in global markets. The Trade Point program makes it’s a lot easier for developing nations to meet customers worldwide via internet, and to export their products in a cost-effective manner. According to a survey by Arthur Andersen’s Enterprise Group and National Small Business United the small firms recognize the advantages of e-commerce, including sending and receiving business emails, researching goods and services sending and receiving personal emails, and conducting research. It is obvious to see the pros of the program, there are still some current challenges and problem that can be considered a disadvantage. There seems to be issues with the current online payment mechanisms, and SMEs believe that there could be another more convenient online payment methods. As well providing a low cost translation services so that import-export businesses can be conducted in multiple languages. The SMEs feel that a simply robust web development tool needs to be put in place so companies can input their product information to automatically generate web pages and electronic catalogs.
