The Revolutionary War

1. What were the chief advantages and disadvantages of the colonies in their struggle for independence? State the principal fields of action.

The conflict began on April 19th, 1775, at Lexington and Concord. It was fought in New England, the Middle Colonies, and the South. The colonies had advantages and disadvantages against the British when struggling for their independence. Firstly, for the British to reach the colonies, they needed to cross the Atlantic Ocean, which proved to be a highly challenging task as it was 3000 miles away. It took a long time to reach the colonies from Britain, so supplies took a while to reach the British in the colonies, this proved to be a major advantage for the colonies. The Americans had position, they knew their land, and they knew their way, while the British didn’t. The British also lacked proper generals. However even with these disadvantages, the British were the strongest power in the world. The British population was thrice of those of the colonies and their wealth surpassed the colonies easily. The British had the strongest navy at the time. The British soldiers were well trained and equipped, while the Americans weren’t. The British had a set army, while the Americans did not have the funding to establish an effective army. The war was principally fought in New England, the middle colonies, and the South, but there was also action in Canada and the Northwest.
