Effects of Thermal Pollution
Pollution can be defined as an undesirable change in the physical ,chemical or biological characters of land ,air or water that may or will effect harmfully the human life, its properties ,aesthetics, health and all other such perspectives of civilization.
DEFINITION OF THERMAL POLLUTION:
In a very general way , thermal pollution can be defined as the phenomenon by which the normal temperaturter of ambient sources of water face an increase in temperature. It can be contributerd tothe high temperature discharges from industries , power stations etcetra ,into the adjoining water body whereby the heated or warm water increases thewater temperature
EFFECTS OF THERMAL POLLUTION IN WATER:
Other than man made sources of aquatic thermal pollution, changes in vegetation cover along the banks of the water body or increase in turbidity has been reported to cause increasing in temperature.
Sources of thermal pollution:
* Removal of trees along the shore line increases solar incidence and hence warms up the water along with deforestation
* Power plants --goth nuclear and coal use thousands of gallons of water for their reactor but return water is much hotter.
* Dumping of waste warm water by nuclear plants.
Effects of Thermal Pollution
There are several effects of tthermal pollution
* Sudden and peroiodic increase in temperature producing a thermal effect
* Changed dissolved oxygen
* distribution of organisms among major and minor communities.
* Death of steno hermic animals
* Changes to reproductive powers and increased susceptibility to disease
* production of heat shock proteins for thermotolerance.
* changes in migration time and pattern may be affected.
* Bio indicators are the first to show the effects
* Decrease in productivity of the...
