Organizing Work

There are a number of reasons that differentiate small business operations and large business operations; the most important is the implementation of a formal organizational structure. Organizational structure is important because it provides guidance and clarity on specific tasks within a company. Without organizational structure, employees often find it difficult to know who they report to in different situations, and it could become unclear as to who is responsible for what. By paying mind to the organizational structure, specific areas can work like oil machines while focusing time and energy on productive tasks. Organizational structure lay out the official reporting relationships that govern the workflow of a company. A layout of the company’s structure makes it easier to add new positions and provide a flexible means for growth.

Upon reviewing the current organizational structure of Procter and Gamble, Team C initially felt the current structure was too complex and should be simplified as much as possible. However, when we think about P&G we think about all of the brands and labels it is responsible for. With that said Team C feels that the current organizational structure works for P&G and should not be changed. The main idea behind this decision is the fact that their business is so large that it only makes sense to separate the four main sectors of the entire business to drive focus on specific areas of the company. Also, it is interesting that the organizational structure seems to be built around services rather than people.
