Counseling

The most influential part of the counseling was sitting down with the clients face to face along with reviewing their verbatims. I learned invaluable information and insight by watching their body language, facial expression and tone then later tying it all together while I reviewed their verbatims. This allowed me to step into my clients shoes a little bit to get a better understanding of their pain and frustration they were dealing with. During the first session, the couple was very apprehensive, filled with tons of fear not really wanting to discuss their issue(s) within their marriage, I saw this more in the husband than in the wife. The opposition was great because it allowed me to realize even more that I needed the Holy Spirit to guide me in each and every aspect of the counseling process. The Holy Spirit gave me strategy on how to meet them where they are in love, which in return opened the door for a beautiful counseling relationship.

Before each initial session, I would pray about what the Holy Spirit would want me to review, address, and help guide them to an understanding of whatever the topic may be. I tried to plan an outline, but that never works because the agenda never really follows with what is talked about, so I decided not to plan, but let the Holy Spirit lead me to what needs to be discussed based on their answers, discernment and observing them. The Holy Spirit helped me dig out deeper issues that I would have never discovered because I was just touching the surface area with my pre-thought out questions.

I was able to assign an amazing homework assignment called the 7 Strengths and 7 Weaknesses. This assignment alone game me so much insight into their pain. They both have to very strongholds weighing themselves down and their marriage. Since I was able to identify the areas.
