INTRODUCTION:

Laboratory equipment is various tools or apparatus generally used to either perform an experiment or to take measurement and gather data such as balances, water bath, micropipettes, centrifuge, microscopes, flow cytometer and so forth.

Proper use and maintenance of laboratory equipment are essential for laboratory safety. Equipment should be regularly inspected to ensure safe. We can become familiar with the underlying principles of analytical balance, micropipettes, pH meter and water bath after the lab session.

Part 1: Balances

Objectives:

1. To measure the mass of a chemical and bottle on the analytic balance.

2. To tare the balance.

3. To list the sources of errors in the weighing process.

4. To estimate the magnitude of the errors in determining the mass of a bottle.

Methods:

1. The balance was switched on.

2. The empty weighing boat was placed on the balanced and the weight was displayed.

3. The balanced was tarred by pressing the O/T key. 0.00 was double confirmed to display.

4. 1.32g of the given chemical was weighted.

5. The chemical was transferred into a universal bottle provided.

6. 10mL of ultrapure water was added and was kept aside for the chemical to dissolve and was used for later part (Part3) of the practical.

7. Another universal bottle with lid was given.

8. The lid was removed.

9. The balanced was zero by pressing the tare button.

10. The weight of the universal bottle was determined without lid. The measurement was recorded.

11. The weight of the lid was determined separately. The measurement was recorded.

12. The weight of the same universal bottle together with lid was determined. This result is compare with the sum...
