PACO 507: Theology and Spirituality in Counseling

Every believer has a divine appointment and that appointment is a call to service in serving God, and humanity, especially to serve those of the house hold of faith. Counseling is without doubt a very important part of the divine appointment. “Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective (James 5:16 NIV).” In James 5:16 that is a form of counseling in which all believers may have fulfilled in some part of their lives. Whether it was with a friend, spouse, co-worker, or even an enemy, we may have all fulfilled James 5:16. In my service to the United States Army, I have counseled many soldiers for good conduct as well as the bad. Although that was a different variation of counseling from that of Christ centered biblical counseling, going after the main point and ending with a solution was imperative.

This comparison paper will address to areas Summary and Practical Application. In the summary there will be brief statements on the; Primary goal of the book, development of problems and personal need, Biblical integration, Formula for change, Balance of theology and spirituality, Human personality, Counselor’s function and role, Major contribution to counseling, limitations of this counseling theory, and Classification. In practical application, this paper will provide practical application to each author’s material as relates to the utility for the overall discipline of counseling and the specific potential influence upon my life and ministry and a brief example of how this author’s book might impact a counseling moment.

The primary goal of counseling will address two areas, what is the client ultimately asking for, and what is he/she hoping to gain as a result of the counseling?(Crabb,p.21). However...
