Joint Application Design
This week readings consisted of Joint application design. “Joint application design (JAD) is a structured process in which, users, managers, and analysts work together for several days in a series of intensive meetings to specify or review system requirements” (Valacich, 2012). This method of information gathering requires the actual users, managers, and system developers to be brought together and then perform intense series of meeting who is conducted by a JAD session leader. This people gathered are the same workers that is directly affected by the current system used and would give better information concerning the actual product because they are the people who utilized the program each and every day. During the session everyone will put out their ideas on how to improve the system and will also all agree on how to implement the suggested changes. One of the shortcomings of having a JAD is because of the intense structure that is used and provided. Also, the intimidation of all of the supervisors and employees in the room can become “heated” in their discussions about the business. Also, if a question is not answered in the time allotted in the session then the group must come to a final decision which could cause arguments and a uncomfortable environment.
