Oral Histories Reflection Assignment

First I chose Trooper Harmon Brown as the interviewee for my project but because of time differences in our schedule we could not find a date for the interview meeting. So my hosted and I were thinking about who else I could interview. At my dads workplace is a black woman and she agreed to do the interview with me. Her name is Stephanie Pride. I was kind of excited because I have never talked to a black person about discrimination before. I excepted to find out how people, who were discriminated because of her skin color, feel and if it would be harder for them in their life.

As I was preparing the interview questions I had many ideas what I could ask her because I was interested in this topic. My hostdad organized the meeting for me and so we went together to the courthouse. We were looking for for a recorder I could use and we found one. So I had everything I needed. Before we started the interview we introduced ourselves to each other and talked about random staff. Then we were setting all things we needed and my dad left the room so we could start with interview.

First I asked her general questions to find out some background informations. I was a little bit nervous to ask the questions about discrimination because I did not know how she would react. But she was very open and told me everything of her experiences. Those were not just about being a black person but also about being female. So we could talk about more. I were impressed that she was more proud of how she handled it and became successful than that she was sad about her past with the discrimination. I learned a lot about the world and how many things changed in time. Also I learned how people can look at the same things in a different view. We were not just talking about her experiences but also about books with discrimination as the main topic and about other things we heard about.
