Proposed topic: Cultural Aspects of Doing Business in China

There are certain cultural aspects of doing business in China that must be fully understood before any company decides to conduct business there. While a lot of companies have outsourced their labor and production to countries such as China, there are cultural differences of doing business that exist. These cultural differences are very important as it relates to doing business, and before any business decide to open or start a new business in China, they must first under the differences in cultures in order to achieve effective communications and business relations.

Doing business in China took to the forefront during the 2008 recession. The recession here in the United States caused a lot of brand name companies to relocate their businesses to international places like China so that they could remain in business while profiting off such commodities as cheaper labor, and lower production cost. The Chinese are that of ancient culture, and they tend to conduct business differently from that of western cultures. Americans seeking to tap into the Chinese market must first understand the culture along with the sources behind the Chinese culture. In example, why it is important in China that the color of their business card ink must be green, or why is it okay to accept phone calls during meetings. These are just a few of the cultural differences that this paper will attempt to discuss along with the culture differences of such things as gift-giving as it relates to doing business in China.
