1) There are two cases in which the president expanded their authority to get certain things done. During the Civil War, President Lincoln took illegal actions to preserve the Union. These actions were not directly stated by the Constitution, but the nation later agreed that it was necessary to maintain order. Another example is made by FDR. During an economic depression, he expanded his role by creating new social and economic programs to help the citizens.

2) Three ways that limit the president’s powers are the War Powers Act, a congressional override, and Marbury v. Madison, which established the right to review legislative actions. The war powers act prevents the president to commit troops to combat for more than two months without approval. A congressional override allows congress to override a president’s veto. Lastly, the court case reviews legislative actions and may declare them unconstitutional.

3) Executive orders are carried out when the president feels that it is necessary. This power is implied by the constitution meaning that the president has to right to order to maintain laws to be protected. For example, President Carter ordered thousands of acres of land in Alaska to be controlled by the National Park Service

4) Presidents can appoint cabinet members, federal officials, and can also remove officials they have appointment in the past. For example, Nixon fired his secretary for opposing the Vietnam War

5) According to the constitution, the Senate must approve all presidential appointments.

6) The president has the right to remove officials that have been previously appointed without consent.

7) The most famous presidential pardon given in U.S. is when President Ford granted a pardon unto Nixon who committed crimes in the Watergate Scandal

8) After the President signs a treaty, it goes to the Senate where it is voted on. If it receives two thirds of the votes, it is approved....
