Ericsson has benefitted from Amazon Web Services, (AWS), in terms of cost reduction, automated software updates, remote access and on-demand availability. In terms of cost reduction AWS is relatively inexpensive and requires no long-term subscription for full access. With Amazon using its existing infrastructure, they are able to provide AWS without the substantial expenses that can be incurred with startup costs. With Ericsson being the leader in 2G, 3G, and 4G mobile technologies, automated software updates provided by AWS provides the global updates needed to meet the needs of its customers. AWS allows Ericsson to adapt quickly in an ever-changing marketplace. In an Ericsson business user study, 78% of the respondents say they work more efficiently when they have access to mobile broadband and 92% say they need access to mobile broadband everywhere. (Reuters, 2012) AWS allows Ericsson to use its servers, applications, and bandwidth requirements to be updated on-the-fly, instead of waiting for hardware and software to be delivered and installed.

In evaluating the scalability, dependability, manageability, and adaptability of Amazon Elastic Compute (Amazon EC2), Amazon Simple Storage Services (Amazon S3), and RightScale, we will see how each uses auto-scale functionality. Amazon EC2 is a web service that provides resizable compute capacity in the cloud. It is designed to make web-scale computing easier for developers. In terms of scalability it provides a complete environment, a processor, memory, and preconfigured software. It also reduces the time required to obtain and boot new server instances to minutes, allowing you to quickly scale capacity, both up and down, as your computing requirements change. Amazon EC2 changes the economics of computing by allowing you to pay only for capacity...
