Obesity in America

Obesity has grown out to be a bigger crisis than hunger. While many parts of Africa and Asia suffer from lack of food supply for the ever-growing population, some countries are facing crisis of over eating. America is known for its power over the world politics and Middle Eastern war, apart from that it is also well known for its obesity trends. Over the past few years world also has displayed a rising trend. What has caused such steep rise in obese population? If we analyze life styles of the affected people, we could point the modern profession, leisure activities and eating habits as the major culprits that have caused such unfortunate situation.

If we consider the global trends most developed nations have been affected by this epidemic, while even the sub-Saharan region known for malnutrition and poor food supply has also seen some hint of obesity in the urban regions. The data that WHO released in 2005 was showing staggering numbers of distribution of obesity globally. Almost over 40% of population in the developed and modernizing nations are associated with obesity. The chart is topped by developing Island nations in Central Pacific ocean, then by highly rich Middle East countries such as United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, and then followed by United States and other western countries. Poorer developing nations, and poor industrialized countries have also been associated with obesity.

When we consider countries such as United States, United Arab Emirates, and Nauru, even though they have very different cultures, ethnicities, lifestyles and economies one thing that is common in all three nations is highly urbanized and low subsistence agricultural activities. This trend is prevalent in almost all nations. In rural agriculture based regions fewer cases related to obesity has been reported. According to Alexandra A.
