•Discuss a cultural change within your selected company.
Since Starbucks was founded in 1971, it has grown in every aspect .Its first foreign market was in Canada in the mid -1900’s and it continued to grow
overseas markets ,bookstores ,and even to military bases in developed locations .” In the past 8 years there has been three CEO’s and one of them was the CEO two separate times. Mr.
Schultz, tight-fisted consumers abandoned it. The company’s sales and share
price sank so low that insiders worried Starbucks might become a takeover
target. So, after an eight-year hiatus, an alarmed Mr. Schultz returned as
chief executive in January 2008. He shut 900 shops, mostly in the United
States, drastically cut costs and put the company back on course.” (MILLER)
•Is the change making the company more efficient and
increasing profitability?“Everything Starbucks did in the past, more or less, had
worked,” Mr. Schultz said in an interview in January at the company’s
headquarters, with a view of Puget Sound south of downtown Seattle. “Every
store we opened was successful, every city, every country.” So yes the changes has made the company more efficient and increased profitability .
•Discuss with your colleagues 1 advantage of cultural
change and 1 disadvantage of cultural change.
Advantages of cultural change is the company could potentially profit and the company could grow due to expansions of the company. The disadvantages of culture change is confusions and adjusting the employees would have to go through . In the end results they lose employees due to the culture
change.
