Outline for Informative Speech

General Purpose: To Inform

Specific Purpose: To inform my audience about employee retention and how it can be the key to success within an organization.

Central Idea: Discuss why retaining valuable employees is important, ways you can retain them, and why some employees tend to leave and how you can use it to your benefit.

I. Introduction

A. Have you ever wanted to be successful at managing a business?

B. Many companies have learned that, by retaining your good employees has a huge impact on success.

C. I am currently pursuing Business Management degree at ECU.

D. Today, I will discuss why retaining employees is important, ways to retain them, and why some employees tend to leave and how you can benefit from it.

Transition: The first thing I want to talk about is why a company wants to keep their better employees.

II. Body

A. The importance of retaining good employees.

1. The employees are the ones running your business as you guide them. You (the manager) call the plays, as they run it.

2. Losing one good employee can have an effect on the whole business. Employees develop a relationship with other co-workers and when one good employee leaves it can cause the motivation level for others to drop. With the loss of motivation in other employees can cause slower pace and possible loss of sales.

3. Studies have shown that the cost of turnover in replacing an employee can be as high as 50-60% of the employee’s annual salary.

Transition: The next thing we are going to talk about is ways to retain the employees.

B. Ways to keep your employees happy and motivated.

1. One thing that employees are concerned with is the benefits that the company has to offer. Such as health plans, paid time off, pensions, competitive pay, and balanced work/life
