DIT 1114: DESKTOP PUBLISHING (PRACTICAL EXAM)

DATE: December 2013 TIME: 3HOURS

INSTRUCTIONS: Answer all Questions

⋄ Design the publication provided using the guidelines given below.

Problem statement:

You are the designer and publisher for an up coming newsletter called the Nature Magazine which is currently publishing creative and nature stories. In this month’s edition you have been given materials to design it. Therefore, create your publication and produce it as it appears in the sample paper, with the following specifications:

1. Document Setup: (5 mks)

Start up a new publication in PageMaker and set as follows

i. Page size is A4 (1mk)

ii. Orientation is Portrait (1mk)

iii. The option should be set to display on master page (1mk)

iv. The Margins are set with an allowance of 18MM on the right and left margins and 20MM and 10MM for the top and bottom margins respectively. (2mk)

2. Master page: (5mks)

i. Setting the headers so as to have the title displayed throughout the publication. (2mk)

ii. Placing the page numbers at the bottom right of the page, in the lower Roman style (2mk)

iii. Setting the frame on the master page. (1mk)

3. Placing (10 mks )

i. Placing the text and auto flowing it in the pages. (2mk)

ii. Sort it out in such a way that all stories appear in the right places. (The stories are properly placed in the right page and column). (8mk)

4. Formatting text: (15 Mks)

i. use of appropriate title styles for different titles (4mk)

ii. use of proper and contrasting colours (4mk)
