Social Media Summary

In the essay Traditional Media, the author talked about the impact social media has had on politics. The author provides statistics proving its impact, along with facts about politics. I very much agree with the article, it shows how powerful social media can be and how a big part of our lives is social media. In the article the author states 53% of Americans trust social media more than traditional news outlets, that’s more than half the population, and social media is only getting better, in a few years I believe we won’t even have traditional news outlets.

In Traditional Media, you learn how in 2008 the Obama campaign used social media that helped contribute to the 15-point lead he had. From then on, everyone saw how much of an impact social media had. In 2008, there was a pole taken on how many social media users were democrats, and how many were republicans, it turns out 44% were democrats and 29% were republicans. In a different pole overall social network users were asked if they were democrat voters, or republican voters in this pole 40% were republican voters, and 38% were democratic voters. Another pole they took was how many people using social media follow politics, 45% was republican, and 41% was democrat. Twenty one percent of all adult internet users said they use social networking to see who their friends vote for or candidate information. All the information found is very similar, all the numbers are very close in range.

I agree with this article that social media is becoming very popular. It’s starting to have a huge impact on just about everything. I believe pretty soon everything will be associated with some sort of social media, it’s just becoming a way of life. It’s kind of sad to say that, but it really is true. You can find so many social media sights out there for just about anything. It can help or hurt our society.

The article definitely had some very interesting points on how big politics is on...
