The Harmful Effects of Steroids in Baseball

Introduction
The use of performing enhancing drugs in the sport of baseball has long been a
controversial topic in the sport since it was first being used in the early 60’s. The problem with
steroids in the sport is the fact that players have an unfair advantage, as well as the game is not
being played naturally by the players who are choosing to use the drugs. This in turn affects
many other parts as well. For instance there would be no incentive for players to work hard at
improving their game and strength in the weight room if they can do that with taking a drug. The
fans will not know for sure what is done naturally or cheating which then takes all the credibility
out of the performer and overall the game of baseball as a whole. Over the years baseball league
officials have implemented many rules and consequences if caught using these drugs. Without
being able to put a complete end to steroids the league should enforce even stricter rules to
completely take it out of the game and make the sport be played like it was before the drugs
emerged, naturally and with hard work on the players end. This will bring back better enjoyment
and much more appreciation on the spectator’s side for each player and what they are able to
achieve playing at their highest ability naturally.

The first argument to prove otherwise would be that steroids are used for health reasons
and have positive effects so the athlete’s bodies do not break down with the high demand of
playing at their highest level on a daily basis. This argument that many present as their case is
