UV-2L Mango

Exercise 1: Descriptive Analysis- Data Collection and Presentation

For years, the Philippines has been producing the sweetest Mangos for fellow Filipinos and the rest of the world. It is one of the top three exports of the country probably because of the sweetness of the yellow ripe mangos or the sour taste of the green unripe mango which a lot of people seem to enjoy. The fruit has been presented and reinvented in many different ways like the famous dried mangos, puree, shakes, ice cream, juice, syrup, powder, and key ingredients in yummy desserts like the many variety of mango cakes and mango floats. The statistics shown below are proof of the rampant supply and demand of the Philippine Mango locally and internationally. From 1990 to 1998 we can say there is, generally, an increasing trend in the exports for Mango. We can infer that the sudden decrease of exports is due to the decrease as well of production in 1999. Though, wholesale prices have shown no trend, we have no sufficient evidence to say that there is a relationship between the wholesale prices and the exports along with wholesale prices and production especially from 1995 onwards. Still despite the decreases, the Philippines never sought the need to import mangoes as the supply for the product has been adequate for the country and for international trade as well. We can also see the great difference of this product as compared to other fruits like Papaya which could be a good substitute but no doubt the mangoes are doing better in trade.
