Identifying IS Needs in the Value Chain

This module titled Identifying IS needs in the value chain puts you in a team assigned to interview all department managers at Central to find out what do their department use IT for, and how can we in the Information Systems department improve the system. After concluding all the interview, and looking over all my notes It seems that all the department have some complaints about the current system that they are using; but at the same time, they don’t want to lose the pros of the current system to the new system. Some are excited about the new system, but also believe that the new system will come with its own problems and faults. One problem area that everyone seemed to agree on was the ordering process. They want a new process designed for customer ordering. They stated that the current system they are using is taking too long, and requires too much paperwork, and it’s causing orders to be late resulting in losing customers. One way to handle this situation would be to go around meeting with all the managers again, and asking how IT can help their department become more efficient and cut costs. The new system will benefit all of Central’s departments in one way or another.
