Every corporation has its own information system, which operates in many different ways. Its goal is to support operations, management and decision making. Nowadays, Information system is closely associated with Information Technology (IT), because the technology has evolved so much throughout the past decade that it seems crucial for organizations to update their information system continuously and relate it to the new technology trends.

IT should be considered as an asset, that managers need to understand enough in order to build an efficient Information System. Each company works in a different way, with different people, target different types of customers, and its information system should consider all these factors to build a system that will work internally as well as externally, i.e that will meet its employee and customer’s expectations. There is no “one best information system”, in the sense that each one must fit perfectly to its company needs and fulfill its goals. This point seems crucial to understand, as many companies rush to have a highly sophisticated Information System quickly, with many fancy features and realize later that it is not what they needed at all and therefore is a big failure. We will see later that this is actually what happened to Comtex, the company we will focus on in this report

Comtex is a British company that employs over 60 people in a highly competitive market. Indeed, they sell office equipment, mainly photocopies, and fax machines. The managing director is Mark.
