Massage and Neck Pain

Abstract`

The main aim of this research is to analyse the response of massage therapy in neck pain and its effectiveness. Methods. To come up with a standard research, until December 2011, several Chinese and English databases were analysed. This research was more about RCT of neck pain massage therapy. The randomized control trails (RCTs) technique and its methodological quality was done on the bases of PEDro scale. In addition, the meta-analyses in response to massage therapy for neck pain were also done (Herman & Cherkin, 2009).

Results. In the review, there has been the inclusion of twelve high quality studies. The meta-analyses which were the immediate effect proved significant responses in neck after massage therapy, where as the standardized mean difference was 1.79; i.e. 95% confidence intervals of between 1.01 and 2.57. on the other hand, the shoulder pain had a standardized mean difference of 1.51 and 95% confidence interval of 0.55 to that of 2.45 verses inactive therapies. On the other hand, the massage therapy gave short term results on the shoulder pain (Gross & Hondras, 2002). According the research done, the only best effects of neck and shoulder pain massage were active therapies. Moreover, the functional status carried out on the shoulder was not affected much by massage therapy. Conclusion. In the research, massage therapy is one of the well techniques well known to give and immediate and effective effect for both shoulder and neck pain. Also, the review shows that massage therapy does not show unique effects on pain than the other active therapies. There was no proof to show that massage therapy is a functional status.
