Statement of Reflection

1. Drinking and driving is huge issue that we have to deal with in this country. It was never really a huge issue to me personally until this summer when I was in a car while a friend of mine was driving while intoxicated. We were pulled over leaving a concert and the driver who is a friend of mine was arrested and sent to jail for the night. I couldn’t imagine what he was feeling at this time, because myself and the three others in the car merely received minor consumption tickets and go to go home that night. We were all in a very dangerous situation by letting our friend drive when we should have put a stop to it earlier. Thankfully nobody was hurt in the car and we were all safe. No one was hurt in the situation but it really showed all of us how serious of a situation it can be and I thin k we all learned from it and became better because of it.

2. Throughout the process of court and getting punished I learned a lot about how I could have prevented this situation. I can say to myself that I will never drink and drive or let a friend be in that situation ever again. On the weekends if I’m with people who are drinking I do my best job to not let anyone drive. If that means taking someone’s car keys or walking with them back to their place, I always look out for friends and even strangers who don’t need to be driving. I was in a situation just recently that a guy I didn’t even know had gotten in a fight with his girlfriend and was trying to leave and drive home when he clearly was too intoxicated. I talked to the guy for an hour and walked him back to his place. I don’t even know the guy and haven’t even seen him since that night, but it’s a good feeling to know I prevented a situation that could have been very serious and life threatening to him and others.

3. I’m hoping that by trying to enforce not driving after drinking, maybe others will catch on and can make it...
