Systems Development Life Cycle Value Paper

One of the crucial components when dealing with the fundamental theories in information system development is the systems development life cycle. Businesses use information systems for various purposes to carry out its functions. There are five phases in the systems development life cycle and those phases are project planning, analysis, design, implementation, and support. There are also several employees involved with information system development such as project managers, system analysts, and developers. All of these employees play a unique role in the process. In the next few paragraphs the basic elements of the systems development life cycle will be discussed as well as the employees involved in the systems development life cycle process (Satzinger, Jackson, & Burd, 2009).

Project planning is the first phase in the systems development life cycle, during this phase the company defines the problem. It is vital to pinpoint the main uses of the new system and the business complications that the new system must address. The next step in the project planning phase is to develop the timeline for the project. Then one must confirm that the project achievable. Feasibility is investigated by analysis who research if it is financially, logically, technically possible, and that the needed resources are available to carry out the project.

The next phase is analysis which is when the project team examines and does research to ensure that they fully comprehend the issue and the necessities to resolve the problem. Collecting data is an essential part of the analysis phase. Analysis is basically a discovery method where one collects information, describes system requirements, constructs samples for discovery of requirements, arrange the requirements, evaluate alternatives, and...
