The Student Information System at Ozyegin University, more commonly known as the SIS, is the system of record for student information and the Ozyegin universities course catalog.  Students use the SIS to register for classes, view grades, view their progress towards graduation, request documents and for other important needs for them.  In addition to these, teachers use the SIS to see their teaching schedules and class rosters, submit final grades, access important academic information on advisees, and to perform other essential functions of course administration.

I chose two of the tasks and perform user testing with my three friends who have not used the student information system, SIS.

Task 1: Please find mathematics lessons and sections that was offered in fall 2013-2014

Task 2: Please perform for transcript request.

1st User information’s: University Student, 21 years, Female

2nd User information’s: University Student, 22 years, Male

3rd User information’s: Graduated From University, 24 years, Male

1st User for 1st Task : The user was tasked with to find mathematics lessons and sections that was offered in fall 2013-2014. She was verified ID and password, signed in to the systems. To find offered mathematics lessons, she clicked all offered section parts in the bottom and chose fall 2013/14 part. To make it easy, she wrote mathematics in the subject part. The result was negative.

In the system, the courses are shortened in the student information system, SIS, not written with the exact names. So, the user who did not know the shortening name of the courses is not able to find courses. The usability problem here is that, the name of the courses should be written with the exact names to make understandable for users who don’t know the shortening names of courses.
