Zenith Electronics’ Mexican Maquiladora Factories
1. Preform a social audit for Zenith Electronic.
The Chicago based multinational electronic giant who uses the slogan “the quality goes in before the name goes on”. Zenith has been operating maquiladora plants at the Mexico-US border since the late 70’s and is the largest employer in the region of Mexico. As a member of the World community it has a Social responsibility to fulfill wherever it operates.
Social responsibility is as follow:

To evaluate if the company or organization meet it social responsibility, a social audit is done.
A social audit is a systematic evaluation of an organization progress toward implementing programs that are social responsible and responsive. There are 4 majors’ criteria of a social audit.
a) Is the organization economic responsibility met? Zenith has not meet
this responsibility (P.3, L1-4) (P.5, L1-7)
b) Is the organization legal responsibility met? Zenith also does not met
this responsibility (P.4, L1-5) (P.10, L1-4, L 10-11
c) Is the organization ethical responsibility met? The answer is no

d) Is the organization discretionary responsibility met? The answer is
No (P.9, L1-2) (P. 19, L1-2)
2. How would you describe Zenith according to the Continuum of social Responsibility Strategies, and why?
The continuum (succession) of corporate social responsibility shows a desirable shift in emphasis from acting obstructionist at one extreme, to being proactive with a sense of progressive citizenship at the other end. There are (4) different strategies associated with this continuum.
