History

Virgin Group Limited is a unique company founded in 1970 by Sir Richard Branson. This private limited company is multinational branded venture capital conglomerate which consists of more than 400 highly diversified companies worldwide.

In 1968-1979 Sir Richard Branson created a student magazine at age of 16. The subsequent years saw series of innovations from Virgin mail, Virgin Record Shop and Britain’s first residential recording studio was opened in Cherwell. Virgin record label was launched in 1973, same year first Virgin Megastore was opened in London, Oxford Street.

The 80th saw the birth of Virgin Games now called Virgin Interactive. Between 1984 and 1986, Virgin Atlantic Airways and Virgin Cargo are born. Virgin Airship and balloon company took its initial flights in 1987. Later on, new recording stores across Britain are opened in 1988 – 1989 and new air routes in Tokyo launched.

Between 1990 and 1995 Virgin Megastore arrived in Japan, Virgin publishing is formed, Virgin radio was launched, Virgin vacations was established as well as Virgin cinemas in the UK and Virgin limobikes.

The period between 1996 and 1999 was full of important milestones for Virgin Group, such as: Virgin express airline took off, V2 music was created, as well as V2 music publishing. Virgin.net was launched as an internet service provider, Virgin brides was opened and Virgin voucher was launched as well as Virgin Cosmetics company. Virgin books published its first edition, Virgin mobile launched Virgin’s first consumer telecommunications venture. Virgin launched its first health and lifestyle centers as well as acquiring Ulusba (a private game reserve in South Africa).

Next five years were nor less busy for Virgin: Virginmoney.com, a financial services supermarket was launched, Virgin travel store, a travel agency, was opened and V.shop, a new retail concept began trading. Virgin student, a student community website and marketing agency was launched....
