Year 2012, year of the cyber community. When you look around, you can see people holding gadgets ranging from the expensive iPad 2 to your friendly China made A-pad. Mobile phones that used to be just for calling, SMS messaging or e-mails which was popular in Japan, are now Wi-Fi capable and are touchscreens the size of your hand. Yesterday it used to be Friendster, nowadays, it's all about Facebook and your 'hacienda' on Farmville or your knack with Tetris Battle.
Social networking and our society today, how can it be compared to our society way back before the Internet boomed and was made public? Well one thing's for sure, the generation today aren't as outdoorsy and innovative as the latter generation. Even the socializing basics which include proper manners, spelling and grammar are effortlessly being transformed by the web and social networking sites.
Yes, honestly speaking of course from the bottom of our hearts, we love the freedom and fun that we are getting through the cyber world. But that doesn't really give us the right to rant or plagiarize or harass (sexually or non-sexually) or as much as defame our fellow net-izens. Even people that aren't on the web are affected, take for example the children in Africa. Making ironic fun of some people, yes the truth is those things can be funny. But let's think of it like this, what if that person was someone you know? Or a very close friend? Or worse yet, what if it was someone from your family, e.g. your mother? This social freedom and fun can turn into something really offensive as well.
Albeit the fact that we are VERY socially free on the web, please let me remind you that we are STILL people just using the web created by people. People that have feelings. Even animals such as dogs have feelings you know. Let's not forget the MRC of the subject GMRC. In my opinion, it shouldn't be just Good Manners, it should be Proper Manners because even if you don't like the person and he or she is not doing...
