Totalitarianism is a type of government where societal resources are monopolized, so the state puts forth an effort to try and penetrate and control aspects of both public and private life, they do this trough the state’s propaganda, terror, and technology use (Grobman, 1990).

A debate on the ethics of business in totalitarianism countries is just that some people are questioning the principle of “ethics” in issues with international businesses. People are wondering about these issues due to multinational firm’s unethical operations in countries overseas. Some of these firms conduct business differently than those in their own countries for instance they may tend to pay more attention to some issues; like product safety, work safety, or other working conditions in their domestic operations and yet some just abuse the regulatory and legal environment in other countries (Yönetim ve Ekonomi, 2007).

Some of the businesses in countries with totalitarian rule used to get cited by numerous international organizations for major human rights violations that included things like torture and beatings and yet democratic societies such as those of the United States wanted to invest. Now there are labor laws thank goodness that unify legal treatment for employees and employees that are invested in foreign and domestic enterprises. However labor laws that are set in some countries with totalitarian rule like those in China allow the factory members to be able to negotiate with the local governments on things like working hours and minimum wage requirements (Yönetim ve Ekonomi, 2007). These should be issues that businesses should consider and they should want to do background checks these on issues before they start investing in these factories.

Now these businesses can become very successful in these countries but it should not be at the expense of the employees from these firms they wish to invest in. Most businesses go to countries like China because of the defects in the...
