and how suitable they are for London Link Radio

Live presenter-led music show, eg. most music radio shows • in the studio as it happens

• the focus of the show is the music and the presenter, who is usually a personality

• music, chat, guests, phone-ins etc Possible, but:

- for internet - need to clear each item of music separately

- phone-ins would need to be set up (small live listener pool)

Magazine programme, eg.Radio 4's Woman's Hour, The Food Programme • presenter and live guest(s) are in the studio as it happens

• has several different items which can be about slightly different things - like a magazine

• includes live and pre-recorded items

• often part of a regular series, eg. daily, weekly The most suitable:

- involves input from several people and several different kinds of contribution

- gives experience of a range of radio formats and techniques

- flexible: items can be replaced relatively easily if required

Live (or 'as-live') presenter-led speech show

eg. Radio 4's The Message, Midweek etc • live in the studio, or pre-recorded all in one go as if live

• the presenter leads a couple of discussions with a panel of guests, usually on a theme or linked themes

• may include one or two pre-recorded items, eg. vox pops, as examples Possible, especially if one or more of you have a particular interest in a topic and have access to good guests

- needs good research and forward planning

Any Questions, Bookclub • led by a presenter who is skilled in leading discussions

• generally live or 'as live'

• discussion takes place as naturally as possible, eg. in a community meeting room/ sitting room, rather than in a studio
