Assess how Ericsson benefitted from Amazon Web Services (AWS) in terms of cost reduction, automated software updates, remote access, and on-demand availability

Ericsson is a world-leading provider of telecommunications equipment and services to mobile and fixed network operators. They are the leader in 2G, 3G and 4G mobile technologies, and provide support for networks with over 2 billion subscribers and have the leading position in managed services. Over 1,000 networks in more than 180 countries use their network equipment, and more than 40 percent of the world's mobile traffic passes through Ericsson networks. The company’s portfolio comprises mobile and fixed network infrastructure, telecom services, and software as well as broadband and multimedia solutions for operators, enterprises and the media industry. Like companies of all sizes that were looking for ways to run applications in the cloud, Ericsson also was looking for a cloud application which would hopefully lower their operating costs, deploy more quickly, and simplify infrastructure management. Ericsson found that Amazon’s AWS offered a reliable and flexible cloud infrastructure platform that allowed them to experience cost reductions by only paying for the services that they needed rather than being required to purchase an entire suite of software that they may not use. Amazon’s AWS also provided other cost benefits, such as no up-front investment, long-term commitment, or minimum investment cost.

Another major benefit was automation and automated software updates. With automation in AWS, Ericsson was able to spend more time focusing on their products rather than spending time and monetary resources on updating their software. AWS also reduced the amount of time that Ericsson would have to spend on the maintenance of their software or other commodities they use to create their products.
