1. What is the advantage for a species of pregnancy and lactation?
The infant has a much greater chance of survival.
2. What are tasks of female and male reproduction?
The tasks are to produce an offspring and provide it with nutrition and warmth.
3. How does female and male reproductive anatomy and physiology reflect these tasks?
Females produce the eggs, while the men produce sperm.
4. Define gamete, egg, sperm, conception, ovulation, menarche, and menopause.
• Gamete- A mature haploid male or female germ cell that is able to unite with another of the opposite sex in sexual reproduction to form a zygote.
• Egg- A female gamete; an ovum.
• Sperm- A male gamete or reproductive cell.
• Conception- the action of conceiving a child
• Ovulation- The release of an egg cell (ovum) from the ovary in female animals.
• Menarche- The first occurrence of menstruation.
• Menopause- the ceasing of menstruation.
