Art is the quality, production, expression or realm, according to aesthetic principles, of what is beautiful, appealing or of more than ordinary significance. Culture on the other hand is the quality in a person or society that arises from a concern for what is regarded as excellent in arts, letters, manners, scholarly pursuits, etc.

As one can see by the definition culture even has the word art within the definition, culture comes from the womb of art. Art and culture is associated because the society in ones lives has an impact in the ideas and emotions he or she has. Culture signifies the shared mind-sets, viewpoints, feelings and the way of life. The way a person behaves on a regular will sway what kind of art one chooses to represent and what specific designs one choose to create. A singer might choose to sing on things that have them remembered for a lifetime. A dancer might create a routine that summarizes events that will have them remembered in the future. A painter will paint pictures of buildings, material items or people representing the way he feels. Our behaviors, procedures, normal traditions are the attributes that shape culture, as where else the expression of art influences our culture.

There are many examples out there to show the relation with art and American culture. The statue of liberty is a great example of the relationship between art and culture. That statue was created as a vision of freedom of our American people. It was a visual piece of art of an occasion that shaped the culture of our people. “Grass Roots: African Origins of the American Art” is another example of art and American culture. The baskets that lay upon their heads are a symbol form of African Art in America. The basket shows the African heritage and is kept around for the future generation to see. That is some examples of art and American culture.
