PERSONALITY

Essentially, Personality determinants include Heredity and Environment.

2.1 Heredity

Steve Jobs was born on February 24, 1955, in the city of San Francisco. His biological mother was an unwed graduate student (and his biological father is said to be a political science or mathematics professor, maybe of Middle-Western descent -but this has never been confirmed). Back in the 50s, it was unconceivable for such a young woman to raise a child on her own, so she decided to put her little baby boy up for adoption. But she insisted that the adoptive parents had to be college graduates, just like she was. According to the heredity approach the ultimate explanation of an Individual’s personality is the molecular structure of the genes, which clearly, Steve Jobs was composed of a lot of ‘smart’ genes.

2.2 Environment

Among the various factors that shape our personality; norms, friends, social groups play a very important part. Steve Jobs studied in a school where his high intelligence was noticed by his 4th grade teacher. The fostering of that skill as a child was an important part of his overall development since that spotting led him to skip grades and go straight to middle school.

Later on, Steve moved to another school in an area dotted with Computer Engineers. It was the advent of the computer craze and hardware companies and the like were being formed in garages including Hewlett Packard! HP engineers played a major role in Steve’s life, as they were the ones who introduced the youngster to the world of electronics. This would become his #1 hobby. At school, he attended his first electronics class and befriended Bill Fernandez, who shared his passion for electronics. Fernandez happened to know an electronics whiz, 5 years older than Steve Jobs, whose name was Steve Wozniak – “Woz”.
