The golden arches are recognized throughout the world as the symbol of McDonald’s and fast food. The company is moving towards serving healthier foods, while maintaining its core menu. The company has remodeled its stores to mimic the success of the Starbucks Coffee shops offering WIFI service, a quiet place to sit, read, and have a cup of coffee. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the functions of management used by McDonald’s and how the leadership keeps McDonald’s ahead of the competition.

Ray Croc found a small business owned by brothers Dick and Mac McDonald. He was stunned by the effectiveness of their operation. The brothers produced a limited menu, which allowed them to focus on quality at every shop.

Ray Croc wanted to build a restaurant system that would be famous for food with high quality and a uniform method of preparation. He wanted all his burgers to have the same taste no matter where they were served.

To achieve this McDonald’s persuaded both franchises and suppliers to buy into his vision, but he still gave his franchises the ability to create new menu items and this would allow his menu to grow in all parts of the country. The suppliers take pride in their products and clearly understand that McDonald’s expects the best service from its suppliers.

The strategy for McDonalds’s is quality for every single ingredient sere at its restaurants. This standard has rippling effects throughout the fast food and fast food supplier industry. McDonald’s create the most efficient and creative suppler relationship in the industry.

Hamburger University was created in 1961, it was created to train franchise owners and operators in scientific methods of running a successful McDonald’s. It has a research and development laboratory to develop new cooling, freezing and serving methods and has graduated more than 80,000 people.
