The Importance of effective Communication

To be able to know the importance of effective communication we must first know what communication is and what it consist of. Communication is the act or process of using words, sounds, signs, or behaviors to express or exchange thoughts, messages, feelings or information between two or more living creatures. There are three parts to communication; it requires a sender, a message, and a receiver. But just because we have the three parts does not mean we have effective communication. This is only achieved once receiver understands the exact information or idea send by the sender. There are also two different types of communication, non-verbal and verbal communication. Non-verbal communication is communicating through gesture, body language, facial expression and eye contact. Verbal communication is communicating with words; it is also the most effective type of communication. On a regular basis we usually use both forms of communication verbal and non-verbal at the same time. When communicating whether is with an individual or a group, something you should always keep in mind are communication barriers. Some of these communication barriers are Physical barriers (which could be Environment, Distance, and Physical Disability) other barriers are Emotional barriers, Language differences, and Cultural differences among others.

Being able to communicate effectively is an essential skill to have in our everyday life. Effective communication helps you connect with people, and this fulfills the human needs for social life. From personal relationship to a more professional work environment being able to clearly put our point across is very important. As a soldier here in the United States Army effective communication plays an enormous role to compete any mission successfully.
