The Dreams

Dreams are for their nature a mystery and also science theory can’t explain their origin.

The science that study dreams is Oneirology and for most of history it didn’t really exist because we can’t hold a dream, we can’t see other people’s dreams; also because if we ask to someone what he dreamt, he will reply that he don’t remember anything, that’s because when we wake up we forget 95% of the dream.

In 1952 researches at the university of Chicago demonstrated a particular period of sleep measured by an electroencephalograph that it was closely resembled of waking; at the same time eyes were moving rapidly.

This particular phenomenon is called R.E.M (Rapid Eyes Movement)

The biggest difference between be awake and to be in a dream is the production of chemicals in fact, while we are dreaming inside the brain there is the production of chemicals like norepinephrine, serotonin…that cause the muscles to stop moving.

There is also a phenomenon known as “Lucid dreaming” where people that are dreaming know that they’re dreaming (or what they’re doing) and this is interesting because into the dreams we can make decisions like in real life. -> there are also ways to get “lucid dreams”: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=llw717IARpQ

Some people think that dreams have no meaning because they say that dreams are just random mental images; other people think instead that dreams have an own meaning and this it’s related to give warnings about the future.

Deirdre Barret, a psychology of Harvard University, sustains the importance of the dreams to the solution of our problems.

She says that one of the purposes of dream is to help us to find answers to the difficulties that torment us while we are awake.

The field of the dreams is very interesting and for this science look up to study to give answers though there always will be some aspects in which with difficulty we can give precise explanations.
